How would you define your style?
My surface prints are developed and inspired by hand-crafted techniques such as folding and pleating, collage and hand drawn motifs. The prints have been transformed into a range of lifestyle products. The end result is Scandi/Japanese fusion!

What is the concept of your store?
Kate Bond offers a range of digitally-printed fabrics, products and surface print designs. Cutting-edge technology transfers delicate hand-drawn and pleated artwork onto high quality fabric, cushions and lampshades. They are available to purchase through a select range of outlets and can be order online. Kate also takes commissions from interior brands, print studios and for commercial projects; most recently Nina Campbell and Willis Newson.

What’s a key process behind designing items for your shop?
Aesthetically my print designs adhere to the philosophy previously mentioned – hand drawn florals, combined with printed pleated surfaces, and although the prints are digitally printed, I am keen that the prints don’t look too digital (if that makes sense?). Gradually I am expanding the products range after extensive prototyping, then hopefully later in the year I will launch a range of fashion accessories. When designing I like to think my prints could be applied to a range of lifestyle products.

Where do you find your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from a range of sources. I love to photograph and draw floral compositions. I have a wonderful local florist, Myrtle Mee, who also supplies me with a beautiful range of foliage and flowers to do so. I always visit Hampton Court Flower Show and am an avid gardener. In contrast I love pleating and folding paper. In fact, whilst studying for my MA at Bath Spa University I interned at Ciment Pleating in Potters Barr. Ciment pleats a range of materials for fashion and interior designers, milliners and costume manufacturers. This fuelled my passion to experiment with the range of pleats that I have digitised for each of my collections. I am inspired by minimalist interiors, Scandinavian Design and Japanese florals.
