What was the process for designing your home?
The design process behind my home was to be open, bright, and functional. Our home was very dark and the floorpan was very choppy when we bought it so we took out a few walls to give it that open concept. The home has needed a lot of work and has been a work in progress over the last two and a half years. We made sure to create a space that fit our needs as a family. We added a playroom and made one of the rooms an office so it fit our needs. We wanted to brighten the home so we chose light wall colors, white wainscoting, and a white kitchen as a focal point. The floors are darker so we really lightened it up with light furniture and window treatments.
How would you define your style? The inspiration behind my home was to be a beautiful transitional home with a touch of shabby chic. Each room I designed in this home I wanted to be unique, chic, and comfortable for our family and entertaining needs.
What would be your advice to someone who wants to create a home like yours?I would say to be patient in the design process and to find pieces that are functional and that are unique. I prefer to piece things together than to buy sets of furniture or items that match each other Find unique accent pieces and piece things together that you love. I absolutely love to create unique pieces of furniture by refinishing them in fun colors. Last but not least lighting is so key in the design process make sure you upgrade your lighting features.
