The Style Files No. 22our Athina welcomes you into her home!
This week is quite a personal Style Files house tour as we enter…my home! Yes, Athina here. I moved into my flat in South West London about a year ago – as a renter – with some vision and a small budget. Over the year I’ve painted many walls, then painted over those many walls. I’ve bought furniture and returned it, bought accessories and…returned them – despite the fact I design peoples homes on a regular basis, I somehow struggle to do my own. My problem is that I like too many schemes / colours / styles etc, so it’s difficult to narrow everything down. Anyways, I’ve finally got it looking to a standard at which I’m happy to share with you so I hope you enjoy!

What’s your inspiration for your home?
Was there a design process behind your home? Not really to be honest! Because I do so much planning for other peoples homes, when it came to my own space I was so excited and raring to go, I just went for it. I just wanted to buy things I liked and make it work later. For a few months I had that approach but soon realised planning was essential as I ended up returning a lot of the items and more tediously re-painting a lot of walls again…in short, it was a lot of trial and error. From here I started planning and making mood boards and that’s when the rooms started coming together.
What’s your best advice for creating a home like yours?Don’t be afraid of trial and error. If something doesn’t quite fit in the space or is just plain wrong, don’t force it to make it right!
