The Style Files No. 17suck it landlord, renters can decorate too.
BRINGING YOU BOUNDARY PUSHING INTERIOR DESIGN TO SWOON OVER.
What was the inspiration for designing your home? The design of my home is fuelled by a variety of objects, themes and styles that I enjoy. Shows like the American FIXER UPPER, blogs (a beautiful mess), IKEA (surprise) have helped to shaped my style this year. As mentioned above, although I do rent I still feel it is important to enjoy the space you live in. I work long shifts within the health care and there is no better feeling than coming home to a beautifully decorated room!
How would you define your style?I am very quirky in how I design or stage my photos. I like mixing and matching decor in a way that may not always be to every ones liking. My style does change from year to year as my tastes mature. At present, I love industrial and rustic styles with the monochrome tones of scandi decor. I also love woods, metals and patterns (with rich dark colours). This sometimes means that I do get a mash up of modern and vintage decor, but I figure that’s ok. Ive never been that child to colour within the lines .
What would be your advice to someone who wants to create a home like yours?Design your home with the things you love and the things that make you happy. It is your home for a reason. You don’t need to follow trends to have a beautiful home. You also don’t need to spend too much money when decorating. DIY things, upcycle items, be creative! There are so many helpful books and blogs out there that will help you on your journey. Take your time – enjoy the process.
How would you define your style?
Industrial, Rustic with Scandi decor
Was there a planned design process? Before I decorate a room I do scribble a few ideas on paper. I always design a room around one unique piece of decor that I might have upcylced or repurposed. Everything usually falls in place from there. When it comes to color schemes, I like to keep things neutral but then change it up a little by adding in pops of bold colours. Years ago, I was all about bold colour choices but have since toned down.
If you could only own one homeware item, what would it be?
It would have to be my cork board dinging table – im seriously in love with it!
