Nestled amongst some of London’s coolest hotspots, think Shoredich, Hoxton, Kings Cross etc, are a number of apartments run by a new company called ‘Cuckooz’. What’s the big deal? Well each flat has been kitted out to perfection and it’s no surprise, considering some of the coolest designers in town have designed them. Earlier this month we were lucky enough to stay in not one, but two of the swanky London accommodation Cuckooz flats – the Aldgate East penthouse designed by Russel & Jordan of 2LG studio and the Kings Cross deluxe 2 bed, designed by Nicola Bianchi. So, if you want to have a snoop around the flats (prepare yourself for some interior porn) and find out how Athina managed to get locked out in her pyjamas on the street at night, feel free to read on. Oh, and we’ve interviewed the 2LG boys as well!

Our first visit was to the Aldgate East apartment, so we hopped in a taxi from South London and were quickly welcomed into the flat and shown around – it was massive and beautifully designed. As mentioned it was designed by the 2LG studio (if you’re not sure who they are or what they do, they’re well worth checking out for their incredible eye for design – click here to see their stuff). The flat was kitted out with solely Habitat furniture and they had done an epic job. Serious wallpaper goals.

We were only in this flat for a night so didn’t get a chance to take our own imagery and you can thank Athina for that. Unfortunately, when she popped out to get some toothpaste and salt (a classic combination of essentials) she forgot the pin code that was required to enter the building and thus was locked out in her pyjamas with just 1% phone battery. So after a painful wait in a local corner shop to charge her phone and desperate messages via Instagram to reach a Cuckooz member of staff (as the office was closed) the panic was over and the situation was calmed with a few episodes of Downton Abbey.

Because of the pin code episode you can thank Russel & Jordan for the two photos of the flat above. Here’s what they also had to say about the apartment and what their top tip is for designing a city pad…
We wanted to create spaces that were fun but felt like a home from home. It was important for us to find designer makers to collaborate with that were local to the area! The bespoke illustrations are by Joseph Gamble and are all of local landmarks and characters! Our favourite is of the Cray brothers!

So next stop was the Kings Cross flat designed by Nicola Bianchi. Shockingly we knew nothing about Kings Cross as an area apart from the fact there’s a train station there, so it was a nice excuse to wander round. Some coffee and burrito later, we headed back to the flat and were mesmerised by the interiors. In particular the dark walls & velvet headboards – a striking combination. You’ll see from the pictures that going dark can be a great idea in a small space. Don’t be afraid to do it. It enhanced the flat’s cosiness and made the room feel well designed.

With amenities like Apple TV, pre made cocktails in the fridge and local C-Z guides of the surrounding area, what’s to complain about? Plus Cuckooz donate £2 for every nights stay to their chosen charity refuge which supports victims of domestic violence and their children? The link to the website is http://www.refuge.org.uk/. All in all it was a great two night stay and we’d highly recommend it to anyone with an appreciation for interior design. Just don’t get locked out.

Pictures of the Aldgate East flat were supplied by 2LG studio. All other imagery by Topology.

This black bedroom looks very interesting, but I do not know if I would have decided. I prefer the delicate and bright colors in the bedroom. But it’s all a matter of taste.
