It’s been a couple of weeks since our last Style Files, so we’re excited to get back into the swing of things with this gem of a house. In case you missed the last episode though, where we spoke to Anastasia about her effortlessly cool mid-century home in Texas, you can play catch up here. This week however we’re continuing the US theme by travelling you to Oregon to meet Courtney, AKA ‘GirlandGrey’. It’s here she lives with her husband and three young kids and they’ve been in the space since just last year. Although Courtney feels as though there is still a lot to do on the property, we think she’s already created a space that’s understated, relaxed and inviting. Courtney has a true passion for design & DIY so what makes this house tour so special is that almost all of the work done was carried out by Courtney and her family. Now if that’s not a true representation of a family home, then what is? Enough chatting now, let’s get to the good stuff…

1. How would you define your style?

Airy and organic, layered California casual.

2. What is your favourite spot in the home and why?

My favorite spot in the house is the kitchen. It’s totally torn apart right now, but we are about to start tiling our new back splash. I’m getting really excited about all the potential it has!

3. Where do you find your inspiration
I get a lot of inspiration from the design community on Instagram. I have connected and even developed friendships with so many talented people from all over the world through it.

4. What was the biggest challenge when designing your home?
My biggest challenge in designing our home would be the quirky layout on the main level. The house was designed to have a very large master bedroom downstairs. However we would rather have that square footage for living space. So we are trying to decide if we need to take a wall down and open things up downstairs or leave it as is. We’ll see where we end up!
